We all have items that hold memories for us. How can you preserve those memories? Have them digitized! Anything physical will deteriorate eventually, so it is a good idea to digitize those items and then make sure they are safe. So, let’s talk about the different types of items you will want to digitize.
Images
The obvious thing that people think about digitizing is images. Pictures preserve a moment in time and can be priceless! Just seeing an image can bring back memories of the moment it was taken or memories of the people in the picture. Images come in many forms: printed photos, negatives, and slides. Digitizing images involves scanning. In the case of slides or negatives, special equipment may be necessary.
Video
Some of the most fun items to have digitized are videos. It can be so touching to see the past brought to life! There have been many forms of video that people have recorded over the years, including 8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm, VHS, Beta, Hi8, Mini DV, DVDs, and 3/4″ U-matic. All of these different types can be digitized and enjoyed for generations to come!
Audio
In addition to video, audio recordings can capture valuable memories. When I was a kid, we used to exchange audio tapes with my grandparents as a form of correspondence. I wish I had some of those recordings today! If you have any audio recordings from the past, definitely digitize them so you can enjoy them! Audio can be in the form of cassettes, records, 8-track, or reel-to-reel.
Other Items
There are many other items that record our memories. This includes scrapbooks, newspapers, certificates, programs from performances, and many other memorabilia from our lives. These too can be digitized so that they will be preserved. The important thing is to digitize the items from your life that tell your story. Contact me with any questions. I would love to help you achieve your goals of preserving your memories!
